The Science of Vastu Shastra

Vastu Shastra is called an architectural science.

Just like molecules and chemical reactions, Vastu Shastra is also based on forms and on the reactions of those same forms within space.

The science of Vastu Shastra, or Vastu Vidya, has come down to us from the traditions of Ancient India, which are approximately 8,000 years old. It can be used in construction even in our time.

The meaning of the word “vastu” is “place of residence.” The meaning of the word “shastra” is “science” (that which is studied).

In principle, any orientation according to the directions of the compass characterizes different energies, is based on the elements (water, fire, earth, air, and ether), and can exert a positive or negative influence on the rooms of a house.

These same energies produce vibrations that affect our lives, and if a particular room is placed in an unsuitable location, negative energies will come, and with them difficulties and losses.

But the placement of a room is not the only thing that has an effect. Colors, shapes, dimensions, materials, construction, lighting, windows, doors, and even furniture—its shapes and placement—also influence the person living in the house or being present in a shop, in a school, at work, or in any other place (starting from the entrance to the courtyard of the location where the building is situated).

Explanation 1: Vastu Shastra is not a science of “black and white,” and therefore it will not negatively affect a designer’s creativity. On the one hand, there are principles recommended for implementation in order to achieve a harmonious result to the greatest extent possible. On the other hand, there is free choice of styles, personal taste, and so on, because Vastu, despite its principles, is something subjective and individual.

Explanation 2: Vastu is not a style; it is a science. An architectural style is visually defined by its distinctive characteristics, repeated in all the buildings constructed in that style. (Vastu has no such thing; this science can be applied to any architectural style.)

Differences Between Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui

Many people call Vastu the Indian version of Feng Shui.

In fact, Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui share several similar principles—for example: planning a house and arranging objects in a certain way to achieve a desired result. They also share the idea that the center of the house is considered the main source of energies.

However, there are many differences between them. The table indicates the main distinctions between Vastu Shastra and Feng Shui.

Of course, these are not the only principles of difference. By studying each of them more deeply, one can discover how greatly they differ from one another, depending on the influence of the energies governing each direction (north, south, west, east, and so on).

The meaning and the reason – why a certain place is considered ideal for something, or, on the contrary, not ideal.

Magnetic Fields

The Story of Vastu Purusha (there are several different versions)

Any ancient science begins with a mythological story and its imagery, meaning, influence, and moral.

Brahma is the creator of the Universe. After he created the Universe, he decided to conduct an experiment with one being he had created (the being was later named Vastu Purusha). After that, the being began to eat everything that stood in its path, growing very quickly, until it covered the entire planet.

Two other gods (Vishnu and Shiva) asked Brahma to do something to stop this monster. Brahma realized his mistake and turned to the eight gods of the cardinal directions. Together (with the help of 45 gods) they were able to stop and restrain the monster from different directions, while the monster’s head was positioned toward the northeast, and its feet toward the southwest. Brahma held it from below in the center.

Then the monster began to cry: “You created me like this, so why am I punished for what you compelled me to do?” Brahma decided to make a compromise and turn him into an immortal being, blessing him with interaction with any person building a house or any other structure.

The various gods who were located at different points and corners remained there to influence the magnetic fields in every house or building, and thus they are represented in the classical Vastu mandala.

This is how the ruler of the water element received the northeast, the ruler of the fire element received the southeast, the ruler of the earth element received the southwest, the ruler of the air element received the northwest, and so on.

Рис.1 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Since Brahma was in the center, this place was preserved for the element of ether.

Specialists consider that this may be one of the reasons why inner courtyards were once built in private houses.

So who are the 45 gods (the Vastu magnetic fields) and what is their power?

Each god, according to Vastu, is a magnetic field that influences the space of the building in which we are located in a specific way.

Becoming acquainted with each of them will further help in understanding all the reasons behind the practical principles.

Not only various gods influence the places within a house.

In addition to the 45 gods, there is a ruler who watches over each cardinal direction, and there is also the astrological influence of the stars and the signs of the Zodiac on each of the directions.

In the following table, divided into 9 equal parts corresponding to the 45 magnetic fields, buildings are planned according to Vastu.

The table is placed over the building plan in accordance with the directions of the compass, so that all places in the house perfectly correspond to their functions.

The Five Elements

In addition to what we learned in the first section of the book, Vastu Shastra also has five elements that influence the movement of energies between the magnetic fields: water, fire, ether, air, earth.

The energy of each element moves in such a way that each element transfers energy to another element, and as a result, the energies pass through the entire building.

This occurs in the following way:

water → fire → ether → air → earth → and returns to water…

Рис.48 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Ayurveda is the Vedic system of medicine that came from Ancient India. The planning and design of buildings influence our health, and each of the elements affects different parts of our body.

That is, if the energies of the elements are negative, blocked, and unharmonious, this leads to problems and illnesses connected with the organs related to those elements.

Water – kidneys and urinary bladder.

Air – liver and gallbladder.

Fire – heart and small intestine.

Earth – stomach and spleen.

Ether – lungs and intestines.

Elements, coloring, shapes, weight, and symmetry

In connection with what was discussed earlier, questions arise:

What should be done to create harmony between the elements? How can one avoid creating energy blockages that lead to various problems?

For example, the fire element is created with the help of the air element; the water and ether elements spoil the fire element; and the fire element creates the earth element.

If there is no balance in the process of creating the fire element, or any other element, there will be a lack of harmony and balance in the building.

For example, the fire element is created with the help of the air element; the water and ether elements destroy the fire element; and the fire element creates the earth element.

Therefore, if the flow of energies from the water element toward the fire element is blocked, a lack of harmony in the building will be created.

It is important to know that each element has a color and a shape that influence the movement of energies from place to place.

If a certain color and shape are used in the wrong location, the energies will become blocked and will begin to act negatively, creating various problems for a person related to that place in the house.

To choose the correct color that matches one’s taste and the specific place, one must first understand the meaning of each color.

Color meanings

Red – inspiration, understanding, motivation, action, vigor, love, passion, energy, sales, hunger, anger. Too much red can lead to stress.

Black – contemplation, cleverness, depth of thought, wealth, strength, mystery, elegance, power, maturity. It is not recommended to use too much black in order not to create a “heavy” appearance and not to attract negative energies.

White – calmness, balance, harmony, cheerfulness, clarity, naivety, purity, and simplicity. White balances the energies of other colors.

Orange – health, attraction, uniqueness, thirst, wealth, childlike qualities, happiness, and food. Should be used in moderation.

Yellow – support, joy, childlike qualities, cheerfulness, warmth, energy, optimism, renewal, and money. Should be used in moderation.

Green – calmness, naturalness, envy, balance, rest, creativity, renewal. This color soothes and removes restlessness.

Brown – joy, happiness, diligence, hard work, trust, protection, concentration, care. This color brings joy and happiness.

It is recommended to use wooden furniture or furniture with wooden covering for good distribution of beneficial energies.

Thus, it is recommended to use less heavy metal furniture, as it cannot retain beneficial energies.

Blue – trust, cleverness, calm, naturalness, stability, strength, and communication. Excessive use of blue gives a cold appearance.

Purple – wealth, mystery, arrogance, prestige, childlike qualities, creativity, sadness, psychology, studying, prayer, and work. Better to use this color in moderation, without overusing it.

Pink – softness, emotion, tenderness, sensitivity, affection, love, and passion. Pink adds beneficial energy to a room.

Beige – a mixture of brown and white gives calmness, peace, simplicity, elegance, clarity, warmth, softness, happiness, and harmony. It is considered the most auspicious color in Vastu Shastra.

Its use in the correct places will lead to constant balance.

Gray – this color represents spirituality, intelligence, mind, maturity, old age, indecision, practicality, sadness, modernism, lack of sensitivity.

It is a neutral color; therefore, it is not recommended to use it excessively in different areas of the home. It is preferable to combine it with other colors that are more lively and joyful to create a pleasant and non-gloomy appearance.

Turquoise – a combination of blue and green. It unites the qualities of both: freshness, femininity, creativity, calm, inner balance, spirituality, friendliness, love, loyalty, peace, and luck.

A wonderful color that carries much beneficial energy when used.

It is no coincidence that in different cultures turquoise was used for windows and doors as protection from the evil eye.

According to Vastu, pastel and neutral tones are the most recommended of all colors.

But this does not mean that a house (or any other building) must be entirely in light or white tones. Colors can always be combined, and it is desirable to combine them according to personal taste and the principles of Vastu Shastra.

Gold – an expensive metal symbolizing wealth, luxury, prosperity, and brilliance. The characteristics of the color include qualities of brown and yellow. From brown, gold takes happiness; from yellow, it takes wealth.

Gold is a warm color that can be cheerful and bright or dark and traditional.

It is important to clarify that combining gold with other colors will not look cheap.

The use of gold enhances the mind. Additionally, it gives an intelligent appearance, image, and health; it creates success and prosperity; it shows the path to success.

Silver – a metal that demonstrates wealth in a refined manner. On one hand, it has cold properties (like gray), and on the other hand, it is more lively and pleasant.

Meaning of the color: modernity, production, decoration, shine, grace, elegance, intellect, unconditional love, hope, kindness, meditation, mysticism, generosity, sensitivity, and soulfulness.

The main property of silver is that it removes negative energies where it is placed and brings positive ones.

Rose gold – the color signifies: luxury, wealth, style, happiness, elegance, wellbeing, insight, love, and romance. Luxury comes from the gold element, and love comes from the pink.

Using this color (rose gold) fills the atmosphere with calmness and softens the soul, removing anger.

It is good to use this color together with various pastel and nude tones.

In the east–northeast, east, east–southeast, avoid circle and rectangle.

In the southeast, south–southeast, south, avoid circle and wavy.

In the south–southwest, southwest, avoid wavy and square.

In the west–southwest, west, west–northwest, northwest, north–northwest, avoid square and triangle.

Weight

In order to place furniture and objects in the correct locations, it is necessary to know where the positive sectors in the house are and where the negative ones are.

Positive sectors: north, east, and northeast.

Neutral sectors: northwest and southeast.

Negative sectors: south, west, and southwest.

We leave the positive sectors less filled, placing fewer items there, and in the negative sectors – more items, in order to preserve lightness in the positive sectors and add heaviness to the negative ones.

Rooms in the north and east should be larger (in a proportion of 1:2) than the rooms in the south and west.

Light furniture should be placed in the positive sectors, and heavy furniture – in the negative ones.

Symmetry

Symmetry is one of the main principles of Vastu Shastra.

Behind it stand ancient calculations.

Design that uses symmetry not only pleases the eye but also creates harmony in any space.

The principle of symmetry can also be used in the exterior of the building (outer walls), as well as in the arrangement of various pieces of furniture inside the house.

Choosing the Ideal Plot for Construction

Magnetic fields and their influence

On every piece of land and in any location, different magnetic fields pass through, carrying different energies.

They may be at various distances from different buildings, which has been scientifically proven.

Construction sites in rectangular and quadrilateral shapes are ideal because they contain different kinds of multiple energies.

Other shapes are not recommended.

Inside a house, the energies of the magnetic fields move, and at times we feel them, and at times we do not.

When we are in a building and feel comfortable or uncomfortable without any apparent reason, it is a sign that the placement of the house is harmonious or non-harmonious (according to Vastu Shastra).

Shapes of plots for construction, directions, and the placement of windows and doors

The shapes of plots, the directions, and the locations of windows and doors have different influences.

For example, windows and doors in different directions bring different energies into the house.

Directions

A plot facing northeast, meaning the entrance to the plot is directed toward the northeast, is suitable for houses, factories, and offices.

A plot facing northwest is suitable for shopping centers, industry, and business.

A plot facing southeast is suitable for chemical and electrical industries.

A plot facing southwest may be useful for people who work at night.

Quality of the land

High-quality land is suitable for agriculture.

The ideal land for use is soil of yellowish color.

Land with a large amount of stones, worms, and thorny trees is not promising.

Black soil is not very suitable for construction, and the same applies to land with crushed stones.

Trash found in the soil at the beginning of construction has significance (according to Vastu Shastra).

Meaning of materials found on the plot

Stone – abundance of wealth.

Bricks – all types of wealth and future acquisitions.

Copper and metals – abundance in life.

Coal – illness and loss of health and wealth.

Animal bones – hinders development.

Scorpions, snakes – problems with construction progress.

Ants, termites – harm wealth and shorten life.

Straw or eggs – loss of life, meaningless expenses.

Cotton – troubles.

Pieces of wood – very negative land, one must leave such a place.

Skull – constant scandals and legal disputes.

Cow horns – abundant wealth and property.

Gold or silver coins – wealth and luxury.

Yellow copper – wealth and convenience.

Torn carpets, clothing – quarrels and arguments.

Metal pipes – loss of life.

Shapes and additional things to consider when purchasing land

Plots in the shape of a triangle, diamond, or L-shape are not promising, because different energies cannot flow freely.

Therefore, they should not be purchased.

Land with cut-off corners or shaped like a body without a head is also not recommended.

Extensions in the southwest are not good places; they may lead to financial loss and danger to life.

Extensions in the northeast bring wealth, happiness, and fame.

An extension in the northwest from the west side is considered favorable for women and politicians.

An extension in the northwest from the north side is not favorable for women; it brings suffering, mental problems, and major business losses.

An extension in the southeast from the east side brings losses and problems with the government.

An extension in the southeast from the south side brings health issues, lawsuits, and decreased income.

Additional considerations

It is not recommended to purchase a plot whose center has irregularities – depressions and elevations relative to other directions.

It is better to choose a plot where the northeast or east is lower than the southwest or west. If this principle is followed, there will be a natural flow of light, positive solar energy, and polar energy. This will bring happiness, good children, and success to all residents of the home (according to Vastu).

In the center of the plot or land, there must not be sewage systems, drain pipes, underground water sources, or heavy objects.

If a constructed house or building occupies the central part of the plot, it is very important to determine whether any of these listed things are located in the center (in the house or in the ground under the house). It is better not to make such a purchase.

Plots with blocked space (tall buildings, mountains, tall trees blocking the sun) in the north, northeast, or east are not recommended at all.

Despite this, it is beneficial to block sunlight coming from the west and south so that the house will have happiness, health, and wealth, and so that the light does not escape into directions that carry negativity (west and south).

It is not advisable to purchase land with a power station or large electric poles in the northeast.

If purchasing property near a hospital, holy place, factory, or other public locations, one must stay at least 80 meters away, so that their shadow does not fall on the acquired building and land.

It is better not to purchase property that was sold due to debt or belonged to people with severe life problems.

Also, property located near places where meat is butchered and sold, near a shoe shop, laundry, or workshop is not recommended for purchase.

Plot Shapes and Their Meaning

A square is considered an ideal plot.

A rectangle is also considered an ideal plot.

A circle – a plot in the shape of a circle is good only on the condition that the building constructed on it is also circular.

A hexagon – a plot in the shape of a hexagon can bring financial losses and poverty.

However, if other principles of Vastu Shastra are preserved, a hexagonal plot will help the development of various processes in the family.

Shapes with non-straight angles and amorphous forms bring different kinds of problems.

A triangle – a triangular plot may lead to various problems, including problems with the government.

Bhadarshan – not a good shape for residence; only government institutions may be built on such a plot.

Рис.49 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

A shopping cart shape – a square connected with a rectangle in the center on one side.

This is not a good plot, bringing poverty, crime, and imprisonment.

Such a plot may cause a person to “run like a shopping cart” and constantly want to acquire things.

A very long rectangle (proportions greater than 2:1) – such a plot is absolutely unsuitable for raising cows.

A butterfly – such a plot may negatively influence the eyesight and judgment of the people living on it.

A trapezoid – this plot harms personal relationships and brings a married couple to court; it leads the couple to poverty and negatively affects health.

A drum shape and a rectangle with cut corners – such a plot will lead to the loss of the wife and the women in the family.

An L-shape plot – this type of plot leads to losses.

It can be divided into two parts to create two separate rectangular plots.

A triangle with cut corners – this plot leads to the death of brothers and relatives.

A turtle shape, that is, a cut triangle together with a square – brings murder, imprisonment, and death.

A rectangle with two cut corners (like a window) – such a plot leads to loss of peace of mind and poverty, as well as loss of friends and the appearance of hatred.

A half-circle and two connected triangles – such a plot leads to fear of thieves and criminals, and the person experiences attacks.

Рис.50 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

An ellipse – loss of women, money, and respect.

A polygon – from such a plot one must extract a quadrilateral for purchase.

An octahedron (eight-sided plot) – considered an auspicious plot for prosperity.

A boat shape – such a plot leads to problems and will hinder progress in life.

A U-shape – it is not recommended to purchase land, buildings, or houses of this shape.

Because the magnetic fields will be distorted, the central place becomes weakened, which leads to various problems.

Construction Process

It is better to grow plants on the land only after it has been purchased.

All trash, roots, thorny plants, and bushes must be removed.

Construction should begin in a good period (from the point of view of astrology); therefore, it is advisable to consult an astrologer, a Jyotish specialist.

The best days for beginning the construction of a house, as a rule, are Monday and Thursday.

It is better not to begin construction if there is a pregnant woman with a pregnancy term of more than 7 months.

Work must not be stopped once it has begun.

Work should be stopped at the end of each day after sunset, and construction should never be carried out at night.

There must usually be an engineer who supervises the construction.

Storage of construction materials must be kept in the southwest corner or the southeast corner of the construction site, at least one meter away from the wall.

Security guards of the property should be located in the southeast part of the house to provide protection from thieves.

The security room must touch the wall surrounding the territory.

This room must also not be high.

Old and used materials must not be used (according to Vastu).

They must be sold, and with this money, new materials should be purchased.

Everything that obstructs the construction process must be taken out and thrown away.

Thorny trees must not be used (including for doors and frames).

When construction begins, it is better to start by laying the drainage pipes.

This is best done in the northern or northeastern part of the plot.

To determine the exact place, one must draw a line from the southwest corner to the northeast corner, marking it from right to left, but not on the line itself.

This should be done at an appropriate astrological time.

The water source must serve only one house.

Kona Sutra – this place is not recommended for use for water pipes.

In the illustration, the building (house) is marked in gray.

One can see that a dashed line goes from the northeast corner of the plot to the southwest corner.

The area that remains between the northeast corner of the plot and the northeast corner of the house is called Kona Sutra.

Рис.51 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Drainage pipes are also better installed in the north, northeast, and east.

The directions southwest, southeast, and northwest must not be connected with water in any way.

The digging of the land for the construction of the building should begin at the northeast corner, and continue in the directions of east and north, then south, and finally west.

The walls and the gate of the house must be installed before they begin building the house itself.

Every house and building must have a boundary (a wall around the house, a fence, and so on).

When building the house itself, it is necessary to know whether the time is suitable for construction from an astrological point of view.

The most suitable days for beginning construction are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

It is better to begin building the house from the southwest direction.

The walls (fence) around the house must not be higher than the house itself, but it is preferable that they cover it from the southwest corner.

Also, the northern and eastern walls must be slightly lower than the western and southern walls.

The construction of the foundation must begin from the southwest direction, then move to the southeast, and finish in the northeast.

One should not build on the entire plot.

It is desirable to leave some open space.

At the same time, it is better to build up the entire southwest corner.

Roads (Highways) and Directions

A plot facing a road from the east or from the north is considered good for many areas of life.

A plot facing a road from the west (entrance to the plot from the west) may bring fame and popularity.

A plot facing a road from the south is suitable for business.

Plots with Entry from Two Roads

Roads from the north and east – bring prosperity.

Roads from the east and south – good for women.

Roads from the south and west – bring moderate capital.

Roads from the west and north – considered auspicious.

Influence of Roads Near the Plot

North and northeast – ideal for women and business.

East and northeast – ideal for men and beneficial for the office of a journalist, photographer, manufacturing, and residential buildings.

South and southeast – brings success for women in finances.

East and southeast – makes residents greedy and also increases expenses.

North and northwest – instability and lack of discipline may lead to illegal dealings.

West and northwest – good for businesspeople and for improving behavior.

South and southwest – accidents, harmful habits in women, and severe problems.

West and southwest – conflicts and economic instability.

Gaumukhi – A type of plot that can be chosen only if the northeast is extended and a road comes from the west or south.

Рис.52 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Shermukhi – A good plot shape, provided that the entrance is in the north or east, and there is a road on the north or east side.

Рис.53 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Vithi Shoola

Names of roads or lines entering the territory of the plot.

Each direction may bring or take positive or negative energies.

If there are two such roads near the plot, it must not be purchased.

(Vedhi – road, Shool – spear.)

Рис.54 Vastu for Harmony at Home and Success in Business

Roads coming from north–northeast and east–northeast are considered good.

They give name, fame, and wealth to the owners of the plot.

A road from south–southeast is favorable for finances but unfavorable for building relationships; therefore, this placement is considered average.

A road from west–northwest is considered average because it brings lack of agreement in the family and mental problems.

A road from north–northwest is considered bad because it leads to business losses, lack of harmony, lack of agreement, and conflicts with relatives.

A road from east–southeast is considered bad because it leads to financial losses, problems related to the law, and family breakdown.

A road from west–southwest is considered very bad because this placement can lead to bankruptcy, lack of harmony, mental problems, lack of balance, and family breakdown.

A road from south–southwest is considered very bad because it can lead to bankruptcy and family breakdown.

A road from the east is considered a bad placement because it can lead to the loss of sons and cause severe behavioral problems that are inhumane.

A road from the south is considered the worst placement among all options, leading to family breakdown, bankruptcy, and psychological collapse.

A road from the west is also considered a bad placement, bringing losses, lack of agreement, mental problems, relationship problems in couples, or problematic partnerships.

In the end, collision with negative energies coming from this road will lead to family breakdown.

A road from the north is considered an average placement because it will make people religious fanatics; they will stop working, which will lead to daily problems.

If there is a T- or Y-intersection near the plot, it must be avoided and must not be purchased.

It does not matter in which direction it is located; this brings a large amount of negative energy that negatively affects various areas of life.

In such a placement, negative energies lead to sudden, unexpected problems when it is impossible to know what to expect.

Exterior Layout

Gate

In front of the gate there must not be:

A large tree – such a blockage may lead to problems in the advancement of the children.

A drainage pipe – will bring troubles and sadness.

An open well – negativity and emotional problems.

The corner of another building – lack of mental balance.

A drainage pipe – earnings will be accompanied by excessive expenses.

A straight road – may shorten the lifespan of the residents.

A half-ruined house or walls – negative influence on prosperity.

Railings for steps – sadness.

Poles – electric or telephone poles may affect the well-being of women.

(These defects can be removed.)

If the defects are far from the house at a distance multiplied by the height of the house, the influence of the defects is canceled.

Design and planning principles for gates:

The gate must be large and heavy in comparison with the doors of the house.

It is desirable to place the gate on the east or on the north side of the property entrance (provided that the house is oriented toward these directions).

The gate must be kept clean.

The entrance to the plot must be illuminated.

Do not keep trash near the gate.

Ensure that the gate does not creak.

The gate must not face an intersection.

The gate must open into the courtyard of the house.

Ensure that nothing blocks the path to the gate; remove it if such a thing exists, as much as possible.

The gate may be decorated with flowers to attract positive energies.

The gate must not face a religious institution.

Water tanks must not be placed in front of the main gate.

In buildings, the elevator door must never face the entrance of the house, and there must not be stairs opposite the entrance either.

It is not recommended to install a door that closes automatically.

According to Vastu, it is recommended that the gate be made of teakwood.

The doors of the gate may be in the form of two shutters and should open inward.

The door must open clockwise to bring happiness.

It is good if there are two gates – one for entry and another for exit.

The exit door must be smaller than the main entrance door.

The gate must be at a distance of one and a half meters from the corner of the house.

One must avoid round, slanted, or moving (sliding/rolling) gates.

Garage or Parking Area

The ideal place is the northwest corner of the house.

The parking area must not touch the wall of the house, especially if it is a load-bearing wall.

(The northwest is also suitable for underground parking of large buildings.)

One must avoid parking on the northeast.

Parking may also be placed in the southeast, with a path between the parking area and the wall of the house, or in the southwest, especially if the car is large.

If the parking area is in the southwest, it is recommended to park the car so that it faces the southeast.

A car in the parking space must face east or north, and not south, otherwise the owner of the car will have to spend a lot of time on the road.

The garage and parking area should be painted in light colors.

The ideal entrance for the garage is from the north and east.

One must maintain cleanliness in the parking area and the garage.

If there is no ideal place for a garage, an open space on pillars (portico structure) may be built at a distance from the building in the northern or eastern part.

Portico

A portico is built on the north or east, if the plot faces north or east.

One must ensure that the portico does not touch the building.

Businessmen must not park their car facing north.

The east direction is suitable for politicians, leaders, officers, and government employees.

A parking area facing north brings health and fame to the residents of the house.

A parking area facing east brings goodness and prosperity to the women in the home.

It is good if there is a roof with a slope descending toward the east direction, or if the portico has the shape of a balcony.

If the portico has a roof sloping toward the south, it brings bad energies to the elderly and women living in the house.

In houses facing the east, one may build a low portico.
